Description
Jocelyn R. Coleman is an accomplished public relations and event production professional with more than a decade of experience. Having founded her own PR firm, Favor PR in 2004, Ms. Coleman has built the company into what is today regarded as one of the most creative and innovative firms in the industry.
Ms. Coleman has managed and coordinated campaigns in numerous fields of entertainment including film, fashion, corporate and personal publicity for such high-profile clients as Tri Destined Studios, American Idol Winner Ruben Studdard, Actors Lauren London, Morris Chestnut, Keke Palmer, Erica Hubbard, The Annual Inner City Destiny Awards, B & C Associates and Nissan North America via B & C Associates, one of the first minority-owned public relations/crisis management firms in history.
As an excellent event producer of memorable occasions large and small, Ms. Coleman has been on the teams responsible for R&B Superstar Chris Brown’s Super 18th Birthday Weekend filmed as an MTV television special, Ruben Studdard’s Birthday Party and Concert attended by 1000 guests, rapper Lil’ Wayne’s 25th Birthday Black and White Baller’s Bash Yacht Party off the coast of Miami peacefully attended by the dons of Hip-Hop including Sean “Puffy” Combs, T.I., Juelz Santana, Slim Thug, Rick Ross, Birdman and Dallas Cowboy Terrell Owen’s First Annual December to Remember Foundation Gala which raised over $200,000 and fed 81 families for the holidays.
In addition to creating special intimate and exclusively private occasions for A-List celebrities such as Jamie Foxx, Ms. Coleman takes special pride in her non-profit passions including the Inner City Destiny Awards where she has through her personal contacts alone attracted the likes of Morris Chestnut, Shemar Moore, Elise Neal, Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child and NFLer Reggie Bush to participate in an annual night of recognition to inspire inner city youth. Attendees were even treated to a special performance by honoree Stevie Wonder.
Ms. Coleman translates that spirit of giving back on the corporate side also through her involvement with the Nissan Student Government Leadership program conceived by B & C Associates for the automotive leader. Each year 60 Student Government Association Presidents of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) converge on the campus of Tougaloo College outside of Jackson, MS to receive three days of leadership training usually reserved for Fortune 500 executives.
Before launching her own PR firm, she held production positions on television shows such as the No. 1 rated “American Idol,” “Soul Train,” various Award Shows, Warner Bros. Television and the No.1 talent agency in Hollywood, Creative Artists Agency (CAA). In her current field of publicity, she draws strongly from her former accomplished career in journalism as a freelancer for magazines and a news reporter for USA TODAY, THE BOSTON GLOBE, THE VENTURA COUNTY STAR and FLORIDA TODAY newspapers. At the latter she was also a columnist. As a writer, Ms. Coleman was accepted into several prestigious Hollywood screenwriting programs such as the Bill Cosby Writing Program at the University of Southern California and The Warner Bros. Dramatic Writing Program. She made it to the final rounds of the Disney Screenwriting Fellowship and was a semi-finalist in the Sundance Screenwriting Competition.
One of Ms. Coleman’s key strengths is the ability to transform a creative idea into a press worthy feature or news item. Her capacity to understand what makes a good feature, and her aptitude to keep abreast of all topical news stories is rare in the public relations industry. She is known for magnificent people skills which lends to her extreme patience in dealing with highly stressful situations and difficult personalities. It has been quoted that Ms. Coleman is a person who knows “everyone” some one whose contacts are not shallow name-droppings but sincere relationships solidly built through the years.
Ms. Coleman was raised in both North Carolina and Washington D.C. and graduated cum laude from Spelman College in Atlanta, Ga. with a major in English and a minor in Communications.
